8th Station - Weep For Your Children

Scene: Foot of Calvary hill.
The weeping women are a group of professional mourners, dressed in black robes. One has arms reaching to heaven in supplication, a second is kneeling, wringing hands before breast and the third, also kneeling, has arms stretched forward, reaching out to Jesus. Jesus is now standing alone. Simon is behind, carrying the cross and Peter is talking with Simon. John follows with Mary, with a six-starred halo, now on his arm.

"Weep rather for yourselves and for your children". When You chastise us, Lord, how penetrating are Your words. We mourn because of the hurt the world inflicts on You. Yet we fail to see the injury we inflict on ourselves when we turn away from You and how deadly our sins will be if we don't turn again to You for help. You still stand before us, begging us to hear the Word of God and trust in Your Spirit. If we care to look at You we cannot avoid but see Your cross and Your Church; while Mary always stands behind You, as she always stands behind us.
