7th Station - A Burden Too Great

Scene: Further along the road. Simon is still holding the cross. Jesus has stumbled across the front of Simon who, with his free hand, is trying to support the Lord from falling flat again. Jesus' dislocated arm hangs limp across the floor. Peter is looking on helplessly, whilst John embraces Mary who holds a kerchief to her eyes and who is crowned with five stars.

Lord, the trials which we inflict on You are so great - no other man could cope with them either. Glory to God, Who wakens people to the need to work for the success of Your mission and gives them also the strength to persevere against all adversity.

You struggle on, Your sacred hands helpless against the assaults of the world. But You are the Son of God and because of Your love and His will, You shall triumph. Faith tells us that even when Your chosen ones seem unable to survive the trials they face, Your love will help them to achieve God's will. Let us always be aware how Your trials also cause Mary to suffer; let us remember to console her in her hour of need, as we pray that she will console us.
