13th Station - A Mother Mourns
Scene: Top of Calvary hill. Three empty crosses stand there.
Mary still sits on the rock seat, with a halo of eleven stars. Jesus' body is laid across her lap, with the head on her breast and the halo is gone. Her arms are wrapped tightly round him and she is gazing into his dead eyes.
Two other women with jug and cloths are standing by with an old Pharisee who is consoling John.
The Temple of the Lord is destroyed. What is in store for those who loved the Messiah?
Poor little Mother, left with an empty shell, wondering what has become of her child, her dream. How can it be true, that the fruit of her womb is no more? Which temple would He have raised up in three days?
Woman, your eyes can't see, nor can your heart dream of the glories He is to reveal to you in a few moments.
My God, my God, have You forsaken me? What about young John, they loved each other so! Yes, I will care for those Jesus loved and those who loved Him. As if they were my own - would that they could understand how I feel!
Because of your trust, the Lord will hear your prayer. As He cares for a sparrow so He will care for your own material needs; see, He even sent a man to remind you of your spouse and to take care of what was left of the Son of God and Mary.
