11th Station - Did I Do This?

Scene: Top of Calvary hill. Picture viewer is looking from above the head of the cross, which is lying on the floor, ie, looking the length towards the foot, but a little to one side.
Jesus is laid out along the cross as an executioner kneels straddling across His chest, reaching forward and, with both hands, pinning one arm against the cross-member. Second executioner is kneeling at his side, driving nail through wrist of the Lord. Dislocated arm is lying cockeyed across other side of cross.
Peter and Simon can be seen wandering off down the hill consoling one another while Mary, with nine-star halo, stands near the cross with John, again chewing his fist. Behind Mary, who turns her head after Peter and reaches out with an arm after him, is a low rock which is shaped like the Vatican square.

It has come to this. We can no longer shy away from the truth, the brutality. Why did we ever think otherwise? How could we fool ourselves into believing that our sins didn't matter, that we wouldn't hurt anyone.
It's your body, your suffering, your pain. We can look on, dumbstruck, but the reality won't change. Why did we pretend that we expected a miracle, that God would not allow it to happen?
In reality it's me, it's me O Lord, kneeling there holding the nails. They didn't know what they were doing but I knew, because You gave me the Church to make me wise, yet I still choose to remain foolish.
The Mother Stood - she knew her duty, to care for your flock. She loves those who love You and will never abandon them, even when we turn our backs in despair. Poor Peter, who had expected so much of You. Regardless of the depth of love, arrogant pride destroys itself. In our weaknesses and humility You will display your strength. We beg You to call us back again: "Son, behold..."
