10th Station - Alone And Abused
Scene: Top of Calvary hill, other crosses already erected. Cross for Jesus is lying in background.
Jesus is in collapsed kneeling posture, revealing sturdy figure as His robe is being pulled over His head. Robe appears to be sticking to back as it is peeled off. One shoulder is visible but arms are still enveloped in robe; head and halo are not visible.
Soldiers are now brusquely pushing Simon away; Peter looks on in despair.
Mary is again in prayer, wearing halo of eight stars, as John clings to her with arm round her waist and head on her shoulder.
How gruesome it is, the damage we inflict upon You. This sacred body, beaten and ravaged, cannot be left in peace. Having bespoiled You, we now turn our eyes to Your clothing. Now we fight about material rights over God's creation, which was all made to adorn You anyway. Perhaps we will never learn; the Church is right to express concern over our incessant demands. Where is our love, where is our generosity? Why, we don't even allow those with good intent to complete their work!
Let us remember that we can always turn to Mary; she will be there in prayer, she will always comfort us at our hour of need.
